Hello Again everyone....

Thanx Again for the Help From my last Post...Now I can start Engine From Ignition Switch...

1972 Johnson 40 HP Model #40EL72E
Has Sat For 2 Years.

Here Is my new Problem....I took the boat down to the lake today for the first time for a Run...
I get it Started and it doesn't seem to want to stay running on low Idle feels like the Idle is Out But I can Manage to get it into forward to get moving...anyways I leave the marina and enter the Lake ....I Push the Throttle Lever all the way Full and the Boat doesn't Seem to have any Power, But if the Engine is in Neutral I can Rev it up Like i was Going Full throttle On the Lake (EG: When i went out it seems like i'm only hitting 2500 RPM's but In Neutral it seems Like 5400 RPM's)......Now would i have to adjust the SLOW SPEED NEEDLE VALVE?

I do not think you are hitting on both cylinders. By the way, DO NOT rev. it up in nuetral like that unless you are wearing a kevlar vest.

Do this to adjust the low speed.

1. GENTLY turn the low adjust needle all the way in until it seats.

2. Turn out 1 1/2 turns as a starting point. Adjust from there.

When you say not hitting on both Cylinders Do you mean timing is out ?

keep it up and you won't have a motor, i don't know your history, but i would check compression and spark on both cylinders. compression above 100psi more the better, and within 10 % of each other, spark jump 1/2 inch. use spark tester. clean the carbs, including removing the high speed jet, besure all your fuel lines are not leaking air. that vintage did not turn the low speed adjusted out to 1 1/2 turns, they only turned out 1/2-3/4 turns to start then adjust.

also you idle speed has to be finally fined tuned with the motor in the water and in gear. on muffs in the driveway, there is not any backpressure on the exhaust.
