Engine oil

Hello,

I have a 1984 2.5 L OMC Stern drive.

The oil recommended is SAE 30. Over the years I was able to get OMC Cobra 4 cycle oil which was SAE 30. But they stopped carrying that a long time ago and some how I started using Evinrude 25 W40. I don't remember who told me to switch at that time. Should I go back to the 30? 25 w 40 seems thin

use rotella T4 15w-40 diesel oil because it works, its cheap, and it exceeds the requirements of the motor

change oil, go boating

Ayuh,.... I run Rotella T 15W-40 in the entire fleet of motors I work on,......

Look at my signature, 'n then change the word grease, to the word oil,.......

What is different about the 15W40 verses the SAE 30? I read that marine engines have flat lobes and the oil should have detergent ?
