engine out of horizontal alignment

Was just checking my engine alignment today before installing my drive unit and my alignment tool could not be inserted. I followed all the advice on this forum and greased the tool to find where it is hitting the coupler and it appears to be at the correct height however the engine is about 1/8" to far to the port side. I rotated the engine 90 degrees and rechecked alignment several times with the same result so the coupler appears to be true. I would think the engine needs to be adjusted horizontally but don't know how this is done or if there is another possible that it isn't lined up.

If it's off side to side, then the installer of the engine has the engine pushed too far to one side when the installed the lag bolts to hold the front mounts to the stringers.
You will have to remove the lag bolts, center the engine, make sure the rear engine mounts are sitting correctly and redrill and re lag the front mounts when you get it centered. There is no side to side adjustment.

Re: engine out of horizontal alignment

Thanks Don

Now im just wondering how concerned i should be? It is out of alignment but it must have been for the past 12 years. there is no wear on the drive splines or coupler so it must not be too bad. However last year i was dealing with a rattle/growl/vibration like sound when ever the drive was not level and straight. The gimbal bearing was just replaced last year (due to water from hole in belows)but it came out with the drive unit when i removed it this year. I am hoping the noise was from the gimbal not being seated properly. but now i am suspecting the U-Joints may be bad although they feel solid with zero play.

Ayuh,... You won't see the ridges in the cross, til tha caps are off,...;)

On the Misalignment thing,...
Loosen the lag bolts, 'n Shake the motor side to side with the bolts loose...
Then realign, retighten the lags, 'n check again...
It might come inta place...
