Engine package question

The Volvo Penta 5.7 GXI DP and the Merc 6.2 MPI Bravo 3 both are rated 320hp .

So what's the difference ? Is it the Price ?

If you were able to try both, the Bravo 3 would put a smile on your face.

With the Volvo, you would be ashamed you asked the question to begin with.

PS: I have run both. Volvo IS that much better. and yes, they are more expensive.

The biggest difference that I can tell you is that the VP is 350 cubic inches, where the Mercruiser engine takes that same 350, uses a larger throw cranshaft, and it becomes 377 cubic inches. The VP supposedly gets their high HP from a camshaft, computer, and exhaust manifold enhancements. Not sure if any of that is actually true though. I will say that for the money, the VP 5.7Gi is the best powerplant they have. Makes 300hp (they used to call it 280hp for years) and doesn't cost anywhere near as much as the 5.7GXi.
