the back of my boat sits very low in the water would this effect the how my engine performs. I have done everything i can think of now and it runs fine abouve 2000 rpm al the way to 5800, its just the first bit it seems to struggle. and it seems to struggle more when you tow some one or have someone in the back??

Any ideas?

Re: Engine position

Yes, an outboard is affected by how low it sits. It has to do with the water level in the midsection (exhaust backpressure). Some boats with larger motors are affected. Narrow hull / heavier motor type scenario.

There are things you can do, tell us more about your boat, motor and set up.

Re: Engine position

this made a ton of difference with mine.
set the motor so the ventalation plate is even with or just above the bottom of the V at the bottom of the transum. then make sure you arent over proped for pulling a load. I have 2 props. one for everyday and one for pulling a tube or wakeboard. 2"p smaller for pulling.

my boat is a Fletcher Arrowflyte 140 GTO with a 1983 Evinrude 70

What else do you need to know? if needed i can get photos if needed?

I will have a look to see where it sits in the full down position.

The back ok my boat seems very low and the bowl type section at the back below the outboard where the steering is often has water coming back through the drain hole when im not moving. (Sorry for the poor description) Is it supposed to be that low?

The upper exhaust vents are only about 20-30mm out of the water?

Thanks
Steve

Re: Engine position

Sounds way low. Photo both in and out of the water would help a great deal.
You may have some waterlogged foam in there if it is that low and filling the motor well.

Re: Engine position

How would i deal with water logged foam?

the battery and the fuel tank are at the back also (Is this the correct position?). But its still low even with the tank empty.

I'm going to try to get her out on Sunday for the photos in the water but out of the water should be able to get them tomorrow.

Thanks for the fast reply.

14FT . 70 hp, fuel, batteries. move some weight forward, get AV plate even or 1 in above keel.
