I am having problems with my mercury 40 serial #06415189 this has been a excellent engine since I purchase it 7 years ago. I have replaced the impeller, fuel filter, installed a diapraghm kit,new throttle cam and link rod. boat will not idle properly now and i noticed water coming from above the top spark plug. pulled back cover and am in the process of installing a new gasket which was in horrible shape. no visible cracks in block. my question is being all the area surrounding the pistons is filled with water if one of the cylinders had a crack in it wouldnt it be filled with water.. the boat will run and telltale pee tube is goin strong but the engine wont idle and I am having a real time with this any info /help would be greatly appreciated..
