Engine pulley noise

Hi all
I have a 2007 Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI-G with all original components except the raw water impeller.
Problem:
The front of the engine just started making a growling noise. (Similar to a bad idler pulley) It does not growl when cold only after warmed up.
I removed the belt and spun every pulley (cold and after warmed up) and none of the pulleys feel rough.
I used a stethoscope to try and pin point the noise while the engine was running. The belt pulley/alternator/power steering pump area appears to be the loudest.
My questions are if you have the same engine package and have the same problem, and what was it? I understand it could three different parts but looking for a common failure part.
Thanks

Welcome aboard.

Does the noise change as you turn the steering wheel?

the noise does not change while steering. I did check the fluid, it was normal level but had some bubbles that settled when engine turned off. No milkshake. There are no leaks in the system or steering issues. Once warmed up it only makes noise when put in gear above idle (a load), it does not change pitch or level.
Thanks

When I was having a pulley noise on my 3.0 i/o, I checked everything it could possibly be, even sounded like the gimbal bearing was going out sometimes. It eventually was the bearing in the raw water pump. I bought a kit with new bearing, seals and impeller and fixed it myself. The noise went completely away. A machine shop will have the ability to press out the old bearing and press in the new one.

Hi Lunkerman
Yeah the noise resignates all over and makes it hard to diganose. This weekend I just installed a rebuild kit with bearing for preventative and to eliminate the raw water pump as the culprit. I just need to take it to the lake for a test run. Your reply gives hope. Thanks.

The gimbal bearing noise was not continuous and could only be heard when running on muffs. The squeak was occasionally heard while underway. The other thing I did was replace the raw water pump outside housing because the original one was 2 piece tubes that once they got hot, leaked and sucked air, not giving the pump good pressure to the water pump. If you replaced the impeller, make sure to cut the grooves into the side of the impeller because without them, it won't self prime. The original impeller had these grooves and some of the aftermarket ones don't.
