engine questions about new boat...please help!!

i bought a 1993 hurricane by godfrey deck boat. I don't know a lot about the boat. im trying to figure out what size engine it has. its a V8 with a Yamaha out drive. if anyone has any info that would help me please comment back. thanks!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard Steve,.... Yamaha's are not very well supported with parts,...

Capt. Ken does come by the forums, 'n he's pretty much the North American Authority on those drives,...
They were only around for a couple of years, then dropped,...

Yer motor is no doubt a SBChevy, either a 305, 5.0l, or the 350, 5.7l motor...

i appreciate any and all info man. what im really trying to figure out is what starter i need. also the flywheel is missing a few teeth so that needs to be replace. replacing these parts myself is no problem i just need to know where to start as far as getting the right part numbers.

Ayuh,... The starter is the typical Chevy Marine starter,...
Either staggered or straight bolt pattern,...
The flywheel ring gear matches the starter,....
153t, 12" is the straight patterned starter, 'n the 168t, 14" is the staggered pattern starter,...

Pull the drive, Then the motor to get at it,...

Ya need a Ring Gear, 'n not a complete flywheel,...

Thanks Bond-o. Now if I'm only wanting to replace the bendix in my starter can I get it at my local auto parts store for a regular chevy starter or does it have to be marine?

the bendix is not special other than it has to match. If you have a worn ring gear a bendix will be a band aid. For some reason some engines like to stop at the same point so the starter hits the same area of the ring gear wearing out a few teeth in that area.
