Hey guys I got a 14 ft 1953 model 5356 wooden whirlwind and it came out before you had to put any coast guard plates or stamp on the transom. We have an old 15hp sea king, but the prop just broke and we can't find any parts. We know they used to race them with 40hp engines, but they might have beefed up the transoms for that. We have a 2005 Yamaha 40 lying around, can we put it on.

Re: Engine rating for a whirlwind.

Welcome to iboats.

There is allot involved in powering a boat. Being such an older boat many things need to be checked and the USCG publishes a formula to do the proper HP rating.
