Engine removal question...oops?

I removed my engine about a month ago and everything went smooth. I sat down and reread the manual today and noticed that I may have screwed up. When removing, I left the engine mounts attached to the stringers and unbolted the engine from them. The manual says to remove the two lag bolts from the stringers and leave the mounts attached to the engine. Should I have done this or will leaving the mounts in the boat be ok? Also, should I remove the mounts from the boat and attach to the engine before reinstalling? My engine is a mercruiser 5.7 with an alpha gen II drive.

The reason you just undo the lag bolts is just for ease of aligning when you put the engine back in. At this point, there is no reason to undo the mounts and attach back to your engine.

Hopefully, you didn't move the nuts that were below the mount.

Make sure you use an alignment bar and do an alignment before you put the drive on.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't move the lower nuts on the mounts in hopes that my alignment would stay close. I do plan on properly aligning it after install.

To do that you want to make sure the lower nuts can move . make sure there free to move before you install the motor.
