Engine removal

Gotta couple questions concerning steering cable replacement. It appears that I have to remove the engine to get enough clearance to remove the steering cable end from the motor, and once the motor is removed, what type of sealant is used to reseal the engine mount to the transom once I replace the motor on the transom? It appears there is a white RTV like substance that was used in the past, but just want to make sure I use the correct stuff.

The motor/boat in question is a 90HP Yamaha mounted on an Arima boat, not sure what model year it is though, most likely a late 90's early 2000.

I may try removing three bolts and loosen the top last one to see if I can rotate the lower unit sideways to clearance enough to extract the rod from the mount and not actually remove the engine. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Re: Engine removal

yep
5200 or at a minimum boat-life caulk.
DO NOT use silly cone if your transom has a wood core.
