Engine replacement on 1988 Four Winns

My Daughter and Son - in - Law just bought a 1988 Four Winns 205 Sundowner with a blown motor ( Chevy 350 with #2 cylinder cracked). He is an Auto Tech by trade but has little experience with marine engines. Does the outdrive (OMC Cobra) have to be removed to remove the engine block? Is it difficult for an experenced auto tech to replace this motor? We are familiar with the differences in the intake/exhaust gaskets and seals. We do have the service/maintenance manuals in hand (manufacturer's). Any other info would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for info...we did the engine rebuilt with a marine cam and brass plugs, extra deep oil pan, electronic ignition, etc. We were able to get the motor out easily by using an A frame with engine cum - along overhead. Drove the truck and boat on trailer under the A frame, unbolted the mounts, unweighted the motor off the mounts, moved the whole truck/trailer rig aft about a foot to clear the coupling and jacked the engine out. Had it out in about ten minutes after all the ancillary items were disconnected. It went in just as easy...runs great!!

Ayuh,... Not Bad,... 10 minutes to pull it,+ Almost 2 Years to put it back together,...
