i have noticed that when i do a fairly sharp turn with my 88 bayliner capri, my 88 force 85 hp tends to rev pretty high like its slipping. any idea as to what this may be ? im kinda stumped. and just for added info my skeg is pretty much gone. not sure if that could be the problem but im sure it might not help. gotta get a new casing and replace it . not gonna have it welded cause i dont wanna risk my seals and stuff melted.

Most good welders can fix the skeg with no problem. Most likely your engine is too high. I like mine just like that. trim down a bit in a sharp turn. You could lower it one hole and avoid the problem. That will drop your top and cruise speed a bit. Be sure you do not have a pin holding the engine too far back ( part way trimed) Some props will run fine at that height.

Yep, trimmed too high for tight turns.

Just had my skeg repaired without dropping gears, shaft, or seal. It's not as mystical a procedure as most make it. I pulled my 85hp lower apart just for giggles afterward to find no melted anything. I researched for months prior to having this done, and found a shop that would "guarantee" their work. This was a gamble to me, but I have a few spares ;) so I gave them a whirl. As for your "setup" sounds like the motor is not properly mounted on the boat? too high? too low? maybe post some pics showing where the cavitation plate ligns up with the bottom of the hull.

anti ventilation plate !!! level with the bottom of the hull ..run a strip of wood along the bottom to get true alignment ....too high it ventilates as the anit vent plate is out the water ...too low and you get a bit more drag ...plate should be just on the surface when you are planing
