Hey guys,
I recently removed the outdrive on my 2000 Stingray 180 RX 4 Cyl Merc 135 HP

It went ok. I just added the outrdrive oil and started her up. I have a video below of it running on muffs. Does everything look ok in the video, especially where the water is spraying out of the prop???

Is the water coming out of the correct spot??

Here is the link. I hope it works.

Ditto, you're going to prematurely wear out your outdrive's u-joints real fast running the boat with the outdrive fully up.

You're not going to notice issues with an outdrive in a video like this one, unless something is about to destroy itself shortly. The best thing is ask the question, then list your installation procedure step by step with close detailed photos.

With boats, you have to treat it like a doctor would. Explain in a detailed and organized manner the symptoms if there is a problem or method of treatment for whatever you are trying to fix or replace.

Thanks guys. Man this is my first boat and it seems like there are hundreds of do's and dont's like this that are critical but things that a novice just wouldnt know.

My only question regarding this video is. Is the water coming out behind the lower unit the correct place for this discharged water to be exiting?

Not sure what you mean by behind. Are you referring to the hole on the front of the drive at the bottom or the water coming from the transom? Both would be normal.

If this is your first boat then I would highly recommend you get a factory service manual, then take the time to read the maintainence section and the safe operation section and that will prevent doing things that could cost you really big bucks. Believe me those really big bucks add up real fast.

+1 on the above input.

If it's your first boat, its a 2000, looks to be in decent shape, and you're unsure of do's and don'ts - why did you pull the drive? You'll get lots of good help here if you give a little more info.

BTW, I'm jealous as your weather will probably allow you to to be on the water soon. I'm still lookin at lots of ice

In addition to lowering the the outdrive before starting, and after trailering home, to allow water to drain out - esp. important in winter time, when it can freeze and crack the outdrive casing - and also to allow the bellows to relax and not take a set, thereby prolonging their life - keep your eye on the temperature gauge when running the engine. That will also tell you whether your engine is being properly cooled. Seems an obvious thing to do, but... After all the thousands I just put into my rebuild, I watch my gauges like a hawk, even now that the break-in period is past. The B.O.A.T. effect can make you a more attentive operator real fast.

fwiw, this is what i think normal is.

water coming out the prop hub, the pee hole and the idle relief ports. it always pleases me to see not much water coming from around the muffs too when it's running. makes me think that my impeller is sucking up as much water as i'm feeding it.
