engine shuts down after running 5-6 minutes 25 hp tahatsu outboard 2004

25 hp tahatsu water pump works good, will run 5-6 minutes at full throttle, will start losing power and completely shut down will start up and repeat as soon as it has been shut down for 20-30 minutes any idea what the problem is?

Try unscrewing the fuel tank cap 1 turn to vent the tank.

if that "fixes" it... then your cap vent is not working.

Agreed. This is the first and easiest test. If that doesn't solve the problem, you need to determine what is missing when the motor shuts off, fuel or spark. This could be an electronic or electical component becoming heat-sensitive.

Its going to be a fuel flow issue or the ignition system having a fault that shows when it warms up.

Fuel is more likely.


Had a lawnmower with similar issue that turned out to be a stick in the fuel line.
