Engine spitting and sputtering

I just bought a 1994 sea ray 170 with mercruiser 3.0. Cranks fine and idles fine but when I give it gas it starts stalling. I can pump the throttle and it clears out and will run fine. No sputtering or skipping after that. Any suggestions?

*Always does it when throttling from idle.

I'd start by pulling the water separator fuel filter and pour the contents into a clear container, look for water in the fuel. Could be one of many things though. At the top of this forum in the Adults Only section there is a thread for common sources of low WOT.
