I appreciate all the information I have gotten from other members thus far. I have again come across a problem:facepalm:.

I have a 91 celebrity 5.7 with an Alpha one gen II. When I put the throttle into forward it kinda seems like it is slamming into gear. Like the motor starts revving and then 2-3 seconds later it shifts into gear. Maybe im just not used to older boats idk, but then when I put the throttle to reverse I hear it go into gear and then if I try and give it anymore power, it dies.

Im a car guy that has been boating his whole life, but usually with newer boats, but bought this old one to leave in MO. Havent really worked on boats before, but am fairly mechanically inclined, but feel free to slap back when I am not thinking correctly.

I believe this may be a throttle cable issue...possibly?

Crap. Don't tell me that. Wanted to get a bellows kit and cable swap done before our trip, leave 1 week from today, but every place is backed up weeks out. now this... Any way to adjust it and make it work for now?

Re: Engine stalling when shifting into reverse.

Looking at the cables I noticed that the lower cable is on a slotted bolt position. Reading everything says a position is to be selected and then tightened. Mine was loose. Free to move up and down the slot as it wanted.

Now by mounting that at or near the top wouldn't that make the cable stretch farther therefore possibly solving my issue?
