Engine Stalling

I have an 84' Evinrude 150XP and I have been having a problem lately with it. When I start to run to another spot the engine either stalls but doesn't die or I have to pump the primer bulb for the fuel because it won't start. But this doesn't happen all the time. It is really spuratic. I have but new fule lines, primer bulb, fuel filter, and it happens with both of my fuel tanks so I know it doesn't have anything to to with them. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. This has me frustrated.

Re: Engine Stalling

JJ.... Other than the problem mentioned, are there any other problems.... once started, does the engine run normally as it should? Once started, does the engine smoke excessively for a short time?

Before replying, check the compression which should be in the range of 100+psi and even on all cylinders, and also check the spark with the s/plugs removed. The spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue flame on all cylinders.

Re: Engine Stalling

Thanks Joe for replying. Once the engine is started it runs fine, it is just when I want to run it gives me the problem. It does smoke a little but I took care of that excessive smoking by replacing the resert valves. I haven't checked the compression because I didn't think that would have anything to do with my problem. Especially because it runs fine at high speeds. Wouldn't it give me problems at high speeds if compression was off? As for gap, the plugs my motor uses are not the type that you have to gap. And I use good NGK plugs if that helps. And for spark I just replaced 1 of the power paks and all the coils for the plugs, plug wires, and plugs. So I know I have strong spark.
