engine start problem

I have had a 1970 120hp OMC sterndrive. I poped a piece of the steering rod off when making a fast turn and the outdrive jerked to the port side and killed the engine. I moved the throttle back to N and replaced the steering rod and the engine was turning over too sluggishly to start and the sterndrive again jerked to the port side. Any ideas of what is going on would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: engine start problem

sounds like your outdrive is seizing up. I would drain the oil and see what comes out. My guess is the oil will tell you what happened. If you remove the drive and the engine turns over ez again you know where the problem is.
