i have a 1999 125hp. while on muffs, i start it up and it runs fine, then after about 2 mniutes, it sounds like one of the cylinders quits firing and it bogs down and cuts out. it then won't start again until it cools off, the i repeat the whole process again. keep in mind that it is a 2+2 outboard, so it is only running on the top two cylinders at low rpm anyway.

any idea what could be causing this???

thanks in advance!!!

Might be the switch box or stator going away, ck for spark when it quits

this motor doesn't have a switch box. it is a cdm style ignition. i swapped the 4 cdm's around to see if one might be bad, but it still did the same thing. would a bad trigger do this??

Maybe obvious, but did you double check the vent on the fuel system?

pretty sure its not a fuel problem because the other cylinder keeps firing. the ball on the fuel line doesn't collapse and it stays hard. i'm thinking electrical problem, but truthfully not really sure what to do next.

Tim you need a manual, the rev limiter could be cked by disconnecting it, the trigger need to send 3 volts+ to each coil, the stator sends 180 volts to them, but without a manual and DVA it will be a problem to test

can you test the trigger or the stator with a standard ohms meter, or do you have to have a DVA?
