engine starts but no forward or reverse

iwas out for about one hour and then the boat just stop.i could not go forward or reverse .

The Info you've supplied is Rather Thin..........<br />But,<br />I Know 1 Thing For Sure..............<br />The Engine is No Longer Connected to the Prop.................

for all the wise guys out there,i have a omc 3.0 litre engine,the engine was running great,ther was no warning the boat just stop.

Pia<br />Sure can help but should we. You give no info at all then get on people trying to get enough info to help. Maybe you should read suggestions for new posters.<br /><br />Ok You are new so I should welcome you to the board. If you have the work done expect it to cost $800 to $ 1000. Problem you have is very common. There is a short drive shaft that drives the waterpump and the lower drive shaft. This shaft has splines on it. When it fail is when the splines are worn out. So you need to replace the two splines shaft and the water pump.<br /><br />Next time try starting your post like. <br />1982 OMC 3.0L 140HP Series 400 stringer. Motor running but prop and water pump not turning. Prop will not turn in foward or reverse. Also water pump indicator has no water squirting out.<br /> <br />Good Luck

My advise is for you to call your mechanic right away and tell him to drop everything and to get to your rig NOW and money is no object!!!!! Thats how you will get it fixed fast and you dont need to give any information about your engine at all.

BOMAR76 LOL LOL LOL............the color........................Thats funny!<br />PIA You need to give all the info possible on what you have, if it sound like it goes into gear but doesn't engage or just wines, grinds, nothing. Your are asking us to solve a mystery with only one or two clues. Some here a pretty smart but there not Sherlock Holmes. Give up all you know and maybe we can help if not we would just be guessing anyway.
