Engine stop when put into reverse. Evinrude 225 2002mod.

Our Evinrude 225 2002mod.(E225FPXSNF) stop some time when we move the controller to reverse position.

It shows no alarm or fault,

it happens also when engine are warm,

electrically I do not think the engine cares when you go reverse

what about the GC any chance a gear issue kills the engine while running at 6-700 rpms . check the magnets in the GC for chips

does it die just going neutral at all or just going reverse .

you indicate no fault... are you running EV diagnostics on the EMM ??

Sounds like either the shift cable is out of adjustment or the switch swift is sticking.

The switch is item #80 on the assembly drawing but not showing up on the parts list for some reason

Shifting into reverse pushes the shift rod into the gearcase. On my '98 Johnny V6, the shift rod cover had swelled a bit, gripping the shift rod tightly, making reverse impossible. The shift linkage simply flexed enough to make the operator think he had reverse. This situation can cause the shift interrupt switch to kill power to 1/2 the engine.

That motor is running on all 6 cylinders, right?
