I would like to know what a average cost would be for a complete engine survey on a twin inboard engine 30 foot boat. also would the cost be about the same for a boat with out drives? I am just looking for an approximate cost.Any information on engine surveying would be helpfull.

Re: engine survey

Have the boat done too. Should run around 500.00 for a complete survey.

Re: engine survey

At our marina a buyers mechanical inspection would be $300.00 for a twin engine boat. There would be an additional charge of $180.00 to haul and launch a 30' boat.
We do not call it a survey as the only hull notes we make would be visible damage or condition of bottom paint.
Our inspection consists of:
*Compression test
*Condition and level of all fluids
*Run engines to operating temp & check oil pressure, water flow, water leaks & runability.
*Pull the drives and check u-joints, gimbal bearing, bellows, shift cable, alignment and lube.
*Check all boat systems. Lights, horn, bilge pump, etc.

Re: engine survey

Does the boat have to be pulled for an engine survey if it is a inboard boat? Or is that only if it is an i/o? If the gimble assy is bad what do they usually cost for parts only.Is there any way to check the fluid in the lower units for water while the boat is still in the water.
Do you have any idea what the fuel burn might be for the following boats?
A 1989 280 sea ray with twin 4.3 v/6's and the same boat with 350 v/8's at a cruise speed of say 22 knots.I would like to know as I am presently in the market for a boat and plan on extensive cruising. If you know of a boat test for a similar boat that would be great.
Thanks for your help bill
