For some reason I cant find info on this anywhere...
I have an 83 23ft Eliminator with a Volvo penta 270 and a 350 chevy v8 which is blown...
I have access to a virgin 406 (400) small block chevy for a steal. The builder says it will make just under 400hp. Im wondering if you guys have ever done this swap and if you think the outdrive and all other components can handle it.
It would sure be nice to have 100hp more than I already did :D

Thanks in advance,

The drive can handle it, but is the engine suitable for marine use. Wrong cam can cause reversion (aka water in the cylinder), the ignition and fuel systems need to be what is called "ignition protected" for the electrical so sparks can't ignite gas fumes. And fuel systems are designed to prevent external leaks into the bilge and engine compartment, and survive USCG and ABYC fire codes.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....

Without seein' the Build Sheet of the motor, I would be worried 'bout the motor, 'n not so much the drive...

Pistons, heads, 'n cam need to be the Right comb,...

Thanks for the response. Ya the guy doing the motor is building it from the ground up per my custom situation. He loosely gave me some specs on it:
Resize block
resize crank
redo rods
clevite 77 cam
rod and main bearings
speed pro pistons
speed pro piston rings
marine can and lifter set
double roller timing chain set
melling hi vol oil pump
rebuild cylinder heads
3 angle valve job
new valve springs
brass freeze plug set and drain petcocks installed
set valves
comes with oil pan timing cover and balancer on

Then whats left will come off of my current 350 which are performance parts

all for $1250

the guy is a race engine builder and has built over 300 motors, with many being marine applications so it sounds pretty legitimate

Let me know if you guys see anything wrong with what he would be doing (keep in mind this is a rough list that he put together somewhat on the spot)

Thanks guys I really appreciate it

Cam specs and compression ratio are some key numbers here. Just saying it has xxxx cam is not sufficient. What are the lift & duration numbers.

.447 lift duration 222 degrees
with a compression of 9 to 1
