Engine Swap / Alignment

Hi all,

Another question. :) I have the service manual for my engine and have read completely the section on engine removal/replacement. The manual states that when removing and reinstalling the engine (OMC 3.0), as long as only the engine is removed and the outdrive remains in place, it is not necessary to realign. However, it does not mention if it is necessary when installing a different engine (same size, just a new one).

I would think that if I just remove the forward mount where it attached to the engine (non-adjustable point) and reattach the same mount to the new engine, my alignment should be OK. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks (again!)!

No, you'll have to realign. It's even adviseable *any* time the outdrive is pulled, or the motor mounting disturbed. On an engine swap, It's almost guaranteed that it will be off, as the new motor may have bolt locations of a different tolerance, or been mounted in a different placement.

**** . So do I need to remove my outdrive to do this? Better check my manual to see what kind of job this just turned into.... ;)

Thanks.
