My dad and our friend that's a mechanic came across a 1989 Chevy 1500 engine for sale that's in good condition and cheap. It's still in a truck. From what I'm reading online, it looks like there's probably a 350 engine in there, or a 305...

We currently have a Chevy 350 in our boat now.

1) Would it fit?
2) Would it work?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Depending on year of of the boat engine, what other parts may be needed but it will fit, and you should be able to move all/most marine parts to it. I would get casting numbers off of the block and heads, and make sure it is not a 305. While it would fit, you will not be happy with a performance loss.

What boat, motor and year?It will work.It depends on the crank that's in the new motor. The flywheel might need to be changed.
Some manufacturers used a cheap smallblock and only a certain flywheel will work.Newer motors some of the bolts and mounting hardware won't work.
You will need to remove the motor to check.
Then if it's the same, you'll need to marinize the new block.Brass plugs and marine head gaskets.J

This is what I know about what's in the boat now... I'll get the casting information on the new engine...

10054727 1986-up 350
2/4 one piece rear seal, some "Made in Canada"

Thanks guys! I just need to know if it's worth getting this engine.

 ???

Woody - since you currently have a one piece rear main, you should be fine.

Make sure the core (freeze) plugs are brass and swap all your externals over.
