engine swap help

Hi, I have a Larson deck boat with a 5.0 GL. I have developed a leak in the block from last winter from my worker missing drain plug. I found a 5.0 gxi on craigslist for $2000 that I recently bought. It was very clean, 200hrs and I thought it would make a nice upgrade, 50 hp. I was wondering what all this is going to involve doing this swap. Any help would be appreciated so I don't miss something. Thanks

Re: engine swap help

Hi there, Is the 5.0 gxi 100% complete ready to drop in the boat? or do you have to swap out some parts between the two engines?

One item you're going to need is an engine alignment tool - iboats

Re: engine swap help

What other letters or numbers on the model#?
The 5.0GL? They made 9 different GL's
And over 20 GXI's
Is the new throttle body or fuel injected?
The fuel pump come with?
The swap: Remove the drive first.
The motor mounts from the old engine to the new block.
That way the motor should be real close to the same alignment.(funtimes post)
The upgade of 50hp might mean a different pitch prop.
Other than swapping parts it shouldn't be too hard.
The coupler come with the new motor? You know the old is good, swap it.

Re: engine swap help

I picked up the motor looks good it is a fuel injected model. Had everything with it including the electronics, the only thing that I see could be a problem is the exhaust manifolds, I need an o2 sensor port. It didn't have a coupler either, I guess I'll find out if they are the same. They are both 2003 motors, so hopefully it will match up.
