I recently pulled my 3.0 lx motor from a 1996 bayliner capri lx -Just curious as to what other size motors and what would have to be done to accommodate
im assuming that probably the motor mounts might be different and some adjustment to the exhaust

Ayuh,... The only Plug & Play would be a 2.5l motor...

Otherwise, you remove EVERYTHING, the Entire Driveline,+ replace it with EVERYTHING bigger...
Well,... You can reuse the Trim Pump....

Re: engine swap question

If you are going to a v-6 or a v-8 there is a bit of work.
Not un doable but you need to gather up a lot of goodies and make sure you have everything that will fit together.

some wiring changes or alteration to mate the 2 harnesses

gearing changes / possibly drive change

make sure you can make up substantial motor mounts to fit the side /front of your new powerplant.

exhaust will need changed and mated to the outdrive you use

think there are a few more

others will surely chime in on this ...

Re: engine swap question

I just put a 4.3 in a 92 Bayliner that had a 3.0.

time consuming part was fabricating engine mounting pads. The stringers are hidden in hollow boxed sections. I welded up 1/4" plate to make big L shaped pads that lagged into the side of the box, and into the top of it. I made the plates about 10" long so I could use many lags. 8 per side.
I welded angle to that for the engine mounts to sit on.
Had to notch the angle for the mount to clear and get a wrench in to adjust alignment.

and no I didn' even think to take pics.

I did this the same weekend I winterized the boat, so don't know yet if I'll be able to reprop and keep the 1.98 drive, or need a 1.84

I also did not add power steering. I will wait and see how it behaves, but suspect I might be fishing for more pieces. maybe an LX already has p/s... mine didn't.

all in all... much more work than I thought it would be.

Re: engine swap question

oh yeah... other pita thing...
The 3.0 shift system all mounts on the engine valve cover.

so....I had to put the 3.0 valve cover in the band saw and cut that part out and make a bracket for it to mount to the starboard manifold. functional, but looks dumb.
