they made some different ones so the year and modle would help

but in general the drive or some part of it is removed because the drive shaft will keep the motor from being able to be removed

would stronghy recomed a service manual BEFORE starting as it will save you from expensive mistakes

tommays

engine swap question

hi, im a auto tech and am going to remove my omc v8 350 chev engine. quick question. how is the stern drive engaged to the back of the engine? on a car you would remove the bellhousing bolts and the convertor to flywheel bolts. how about on a boat? is it a spline fit or is there somthing bolted to the flywheel/ flexplate?

thanks in advance for the help

Re: engine swap question

Remove the motor mount lag bolt in front and the engine mount bolt in the back, as soon as the front mounts come up off the stringer start trying to move the engine forward.
Do Not jack any higher than just to clear, if you do the input shaft from the O/D will start to bind. It would be a good idea to support the O/D in some manner.
When you get it out check the boot at the bottom for cracks, and leakage, and possible replacement.
Good Luck!!
