Re: ENGINE SWAP

Welcome to iboats forum, bicedawg. If your current engine has a 305 block, it is essentially no different from an automotive block. The two primary differences in the block itself are cylinder tolerances (boat motors have more clearance due to the rapid expansion and contraction from drawing cold, raw water for cooling) and brass freeze plugs.

Without doing extensive research before altering, be sure to use the same cam and piston style. Also you want to be sure to retain the marine specific items such as the carb, fuel pump, distributor, alternator, water pump, alternator and starter.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: ENGINE SWAP

Bicedawg, 'clymer' sterndrive manual lists the AQ225D as a 305.

Part number for the manual is B770, it has all the specs you might need.

Yes..........
If you want, a Chevy 305 Block from a junkyard can be preped,+ assembled using All the Internal,+ External parts from your existing motor..............As long as it's a 1980 to 1985 Block......
OR,
A Much Better Choice, IMO, is to buy a GM Goodwrench 350, 5.7l Pick-up truck replacement motor, for a 1984 pick-up truck........
You'll get a More Powerful engine(45cids more)......
As long as the freeze-plugs are changed to Brass, Your Good to Go......
The Cam grind in a truck motor is So Close, that You'll Never Know the Difference(Idle to 4500rpms).......
