Engine swap?

I have a 1995 regal with a blown 3.0 L Volvo 4 cyl. I have an opportunity to buy a 94 bayliner with a 3.0 L Mercruiser for cheap. I know both are GM blocks, but are they interchangeable? Will I need to put all my Volvo parts on the Mercruiser block? Or will this swap even work? I am planning on using my Volvo foot, because the Mercruiser boat needs a foot plus interior.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Wasn't sure if it needed to be in the Volvo or Mercruiser section.

Re: Engine swap?

Would it be worth just doing a full engine/transom assembly/outdrive swap between the 2 boats?

I guess the follow-on question would be about plans for the Bayliner. Either way, you still end up with 1 good engine and 1 'blown' engine.

I say blown because its locked up, plus cracked. Previous owner didn't take care of it. The Bayliner has no interior or outdrive so I'd be buying it strictly for the motor. Then probably in turn resell it and get part of my money back.

I'm a pretty good DIYer when in comes to cars and trucks, but marine engines have me puzzled. I know the 3.0 blocks are the same regardless, but I don't know if my Volvo outdrive will work with the Mercruiser. Would I have to strip all Merc parts and replace with Volvo?

Ayuh,.... Yer life will be much Happier if ya strip 'em both to long blocks, 'n go back together as a Matchin' Volvo...

Franken-motorin' ain't worth the effort, nor the results...
