Ok my brother inlaw wants to buy a 1990 22ft carver montego they want 1000 for the hull and trailer no motor. Is a little rough but he wants to make a project out of it and another person is selling a merc inline six with outdrive dont know the year is a running engine. Question is could he drop that inline six in this hull or would it be too much under power?

Heres a the hull http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/boa/2940110015.html

Re: Engine swap

way too underpowered with an old in-line. that boat was underpowered with a small v8 unless you just like to idle along.

Plus you will want to check, it most likely had a volvo outdrive.

Re: Engine swap

on light cruise, it is getting about 2mpg with a small block on calm water. in rough water about 2 gpm (gallons per mile)

Re: Engine swap

If you want a big cruiser like that, i would think mileage needs to not be an issue.
