Hi:

I have a 1996 28' Carolina Classic with twin Volvo KAMD42 diesel jackshafts.....the other day I was returning from the fuel dock and my port engine battery alarm went off....shortly after I turned the alarm off, the port tach went dead, but the engine remained running....engine temp, oil pressure and voltmeter (read about 13.2) did not change....I watched those gauges as I slowly made my way back to the dock, and everything appeared ok....

Any ideas as to what could be causing the problem? Is it a coincidence the battery alarm went off and then the tach went dead shortly after, or does that point to the potential problem?

Thx in advance for your help!!

Re: Engine Tachometer Not Registering

i'll take a guess , the tach is probably alternater driven therefore when the alt. quits working thus the battery alarm,then the tach has no signal.{i know that on ag tractors with diesel engines this would be the case}
