Engine temp range

Fired boat up for first time on muffs, noticed no water coming from reserve outlets. Took it out on water and engine would warm up to 170+ in idle and no wake fwd, but as soon as I gave it has temp came down instantly. Changed impeller today, thanks Achris for the awesome video, but it back together, and now water is coming from the overflow and is warm compared to the cold inlet water but temp still slowly keeps climbing. So now I am stumped...feel like water is circulating properly, so is that normal idle temp ranges or is the thermostat not opening? Any ideas from the experts out there.

Thanks in advance!

Think I figured it out...increased water flow on the muffs and it cooled right down to south of 165....which is about the range it normally runs at while on water.

Thanks again for all the advice on this forum...it is invaluable. Couple of things I can confirm
1. Merc service manauls are invaluable...a lot of good content on you tube etc...but the actual service manuals walk you through everything.
2. There are no short cuts...the advice on this forum for me so far as been 100% spot on.

Thanks again to everyone that contributes to this site!

Ayuh,..... When runnin' on the muffs, ya give it ALL the water available from yer hose, 'n Hope that's enough,.....

Never, Ever throttle down the flow from yer hose,..... many don't supply enough, even at full flow,.....

The old impeller looked to be in decent shape, still confused as to why it seemed to be struggling to push water in idle. Oh well....it works now thanks to an assist from the crew in these forums!
