Hi,

I have a MerCruiser, Model Number: 0F001182. A search seems to point to the 3.0L/LX Alpha One. I want to do a tune up, but all the parts sites seem to list parts for engine number "Ranges" not my particular engine. As an example, I'd like to do the cap/rotor, but in the results, I get different kits-- one kit has points ignition, one doesn't. Is there a search somewhere such that given my engine serial number it gives me only parts that fit my engine?

I'm looking for these things:

1. Ignition tune-up kit-- Cap/Rotor all that stuff-- not sure if that engine has points or not.

2. Spark plug wire.

3. Spark plugs-- I'm running NGK currently-- they seem to be good to me.

4. Fuel Filter

Thanks in advance!
Julian

Hi there, your engine serial number comes up as an MERCRUISER WOPS-TWOPCEX-W/O REM-EST IGN 3.0L ALPHA
MERCRUISER - (3.0L H.P. (1993M)
Serial No: 0F001182 Model No: 430B0003S Parts catalog part #: 81632390

Knowing that, here is your parts catalog you'll want to use to look up parts,
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectDocs.asp?doc_nbr=816323+90

According to your serial number you don't have points so you'll use the EST ignition system like seen here,

Thanks for the link!! One question is how exactly did you tell that it's EST ignition? When I open the link-- it gives me parts for 3 different ignition types-- EST, Digital & Conventional. Also, just curious, what does EST stand for? :)

Thanks!
Julian

Around here Napa has most common Mercruiser parts. They use the same part numbers as Sierra. Go in with your serial numbers and they can look it up.

That's cool! Didn't know NAPA does that. Looks like in the search, there's only 1 match for the 3.0LX engine. However, in the result list for that engine, it shows ignition points kits. So which site is right? Do I have EST Ignition or Points?

If you know a little bit about what to look for under the distributor cap it will be obvious if you have electronic (EST) or points ingnition.

yea, if I could see it, things would be easier, but I'm in MN and the boat is still shrink wrapped. I just wanted to get a head start on picking up the parts so that once the nice weather comes around, I can do a tune up instead of looking for parts then. Thanks again for your help.
