I tried to use that can of Tune-up you atatch to the Solenoid today and it just came out the bottom of the solenoid all over the motor. I took a look and I see that there are two hoses that go to the tops of both carb areas. These hoses aren't connected to the bottom of the solenoid where there are two hose nipples. Can I just connect these hoses to those nipples? Is that where they belong? It's a 93 Johnson 90 hp two stroke. Thanks

yes, i'm surprized you can get the motor started with them disconnected. also turn the red handle 90 degrees, to get the stuff thru, when do return it back over the body of solenoid.

Thanks for the reply. The motor has been getting tougher to start with the colder mornings even after holding in the choke. Is there a fuel line going to that solenoid? I tried to see but couldn't. What is the purpose of the red toggle? I'll hook up those two hoses and try again tomorrow.

Re: Engine tune-up through Solenoid

yes, there is a fuel line going to the solenoid, this unit is called the primer. it replace the choke, that use to be in the carb. when you push the key in when in the on, or start postion, you activate the solenoid, which directs fuel into the intake manifold, to enrichen the fuel/air mix for starting. the function of the red handle is manual activation, for engine cleaner, or rope starting if battery is dead. these are the only 2 reason for moving the red lever. it should be left in the positon where it is centered of the body of the solenoid, at all other times.

Re: Engine tune-up through Solenoid

That was fantastic info. I did re-connect those two hoses to the solenoid and went through the tune-up and fogging procedure. I didn't turn that red toggle though into the manual position so I will do it again this week before storing it. I wondered why I wasn't getting all that smoke I did on the 9.9! Thanks for your help.
