Engine won't start

I have a 2004 Mercruiser 5.0 260HP bravo drive that won't start. I have recently had the exhaust manfiolds & risers replaced along with the fuel pump. The funny thing is prior to heading to the boat ramp, I started the boat using a hose just to make sure I won't be embarrassed at the ramp and the boat started fine in the yard. Lo & behold, I get to the ramp and the boat won't start. It turns over but no go. I don't hear the "whir" sound of the fuel pump when I turn the key on. I also didn't hear it in the yard either but it started up fine. Strange.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris and :welcome: to iBoats.

Could we ask for an engine serial number please. There are quite a few different variations of that engine and troubleshooting depends on what you have.

Thanks,

Chris.......

:welcome: to iboats

S/N would be great, otherwise it's 20 questions about, EFI, carb, and a bunch more.

Serial number is 0M666426

Thanks guys for your input but I think the mysery is solved. Seeing that I just had the fuel pump replaced I started with the basics and checked the wiring from the pump. With the ignition switch on, I started jiggling the wires and the water proof connector and sure enough, the pump was turning on and off. Found the bad connection, rewired, and bada bing! My whirring sound is back. Cranked the engine and she fired right up. I didn't use the same connector, however and just crimped the wires together with a connector. Is this bad?

Lesson learned... never eliminate the obvious. Makes me mad however in that the fuel pump most likely never needed replacing. At least I have piece of mind with the new pump. Perhaps two lessons learned..... find a good mechanic in the Tampa area (I have yet to do so) and stick with him!

Thanks everyone for your input.

Crimp connectors are not that great, but they are used most often. A salt water enviroment makes things worst with the crimp connectors. Since it's already done, put some liquid tape on it to help seal it up, suggest a couple of good coats between drying

My wife tells me I don't listen to her or something like that; I came back with now just a minute I did cut the grass yesterday.

I showed her, don't tell me I'm not cutting grass
