I have a 1981 omc 3.8l GM V6 My Problem is when I turn the key off the engine remains running, I can unplug the coil to turn off but the electrical system is still energized. I must disconnect the battery to prevent it from draining in less than an hour , Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated. Thank you

Hi vahevala,

First thought is faulty ignition switch. Were there any symtoms leading up to this problem? Any wiring jobs done lately?

Aldo

The ignition switch would be the first place to check. Remove the switch with the wires still connected. With the switch in the off position check to see if two terminals are hot with a test light. If they are the switch is bad. If not you could have a shorted wire that is feeding the ignition circuit to keep it running.
