Engines almost out. Motor Mount question

Everything is disconnected, and the engine is almost ready to be lifted out. Do I take the mounts off the stringers, or do I just take off the top bolt on the mount? I'm sure it matters when it comes to alignment issues... I see 2 front mounts and two large bolts attached at the transom.

Thanks,

Joe

Remove the lag bolts from the stringers. Those mounts are handy to have on the engine if you block it on the floor. Plus you don't mess up the threads on the mounts. Not so much of a problem removing the engine, but putting back in is the problem.

Make sure you also mark the mounts port and starboard the adjustments may be different.

Is the drive off? You don't need to mark the mounts if you leave them on the engine and just pull the lags like everyone else does.
Make sure you note the position of all the washers and stuff on the transom bolts, they must go back the EXACT same way or you will never get alignment.

In most cases, the nuts are somewhat rusted in place and may require some hi-heat to loosen. Its a lot safer to do this outside the boat so removing the mount by removing the lags are a plus, not to mention the room to use the 14 inch log box wrench.
simply moving the motor requires re-adjustment so its easier to have the nuts turn easily to do the alignment anter the install.

remove the lugs-photogragh spacers, washers-store then in a plastic baggie.
When my "new" motor was installed with the old mounts still in place the alignment tool went in true the 1st try-- checked it 3 more times to confirm it was good. We got lucky.

Re: Engines almost out. Motor Mount question

Thanks for the info guys. We had bad weather in Florida this weekend. I plan on having the tow truck come and lift this out tomorrow. I will keep you guys updated. Looks like I had some leaking riser gaskets.. rusted the paint off the outside of the block. New gaskets and paint should clean things up nice. I'll be sure to take time prepping.

Thanks for your help.
