I have a fairly new ( 2002 ) 28 foot Caravelle Sea Hawk. It came with twin engines. 225HP Yamaha Ox66 Saltwater series.

The boat has not been run now for about 8 months and in that time it has been through the rains of two hurricanes here in Florida. The last time I took it out we put Sta-bil fuel additive in the remaining fuel ( about 25 gallons ) and ran it for about an hour before placing it on a lift out of the water where it has been the last 8 months.

The engines will not start up now. They crank and crank, but will not fire up. I tried spraying a little bit of starting fluid into the carb to test them and they fire right up.

Assuming then it was the gas, I pumped all the gas from the tank, put new gas in. Changed the plugs, water seperators, put in new batteries, and sprayed the fuel filters with carb cleaner and put them back on because they appeared ok.

Engines still will not start, they just crank over and over.

I took the hose off that leads to the fuel rail and it is dry as a bone. So it would appear it is just not getting gas. I can get the primer bulbs hard by priming them, and I have verified that there is fuel in the vapor seperating tank and in the fuel filter during the priming. We have flushed over 2 gallons of good fuel through the lines using the primer bulbs now, so I would not think it is still the gas.

At this point I am out of ideas. I even tried bypassing the lanyard kill switch to test if that had gone bad. Still no luck.

Any ideas anyone?

Re: Engines won't start

remove the high pressure pumps from the VST. soak them in sea foam or combustion chamber cleaner over night. the use jumper leads and hook up the pump to a battery on the work bench. if they dont move momentarily reverse the connections, sometimes lighty tapping them with a wood block while jumping helps break them free. if not hold on to your wallet and buy new pumps.
a quick test is with the key on engine off jump the blue pump wire to ground. if it does not run the above most likly will apply. the red lead at the pump is 12v positive any time the key is on. check it as well. the pumps are a tad pricey.
