Hi everyone I post on this motor last week on how to change the Oil, Well I changed the oil and the motor ran fine for a while. Now the motor started shuting down after it gets hot.

Now I mixed the Gas with the Oil TC-W3 type instead of the Sae30w, on the Gas Kan it said to put 1/2 pint of Oil to every 1 Gal. of gas, so I put 1 1/2 pt. of Oil to 3 Gal. of Gas. When it shuts down the motor is hard to pull as if its stuck, after it cools it pulls fine again.

I have heard about the 24:1 for oil to Gas, my math is not to good so I did what the Gas Kan said to do, I just did`nt uses Sae30. Could it be that I should uses the Sae30 Oil instead of the TW3 Oil? Or maybe that has nothing to do with it at all, just woundering.

One more thing I adjusted the Big know for high motor run and the small knob for slow motor run and both adjusted out sweet. My problem here is that the motor is so old there is no indicator on the case of where the numbers on the knobs should go. That mite not even matter as long as you adjust it out where the motor runs good in the HI and SLOW position. I just was reading the inside of the Motor House where it said to put the Big Knob on 3 and adjust from there.

I Read this on this forum

(You might want to replace the float if its the original cork float as the alcohol in modern gas may dissolve the shellac.) I`m thing this is my problem and could this cause this kind of problem.

TCW3 is fine for that motor.
It sounds like it is overheating severely.
It is not your carb.

agree on the overheat.

sounds like your water pump or thermostat is bad.

I did not even consider the possibility that it was not even in water....guess I need to ask the obvious, now that it's Springtime. :p

Hello all, open my Eyes so I can see, I feel so stupid, the motor is not in the walter, that may be why the motor will only run for about 7 mins then shut down and want run again until it cools. I plain to put it in the walter out at Aligator Alle in the Everglades.

Don`t want to get out there with them Gators and the Motor stops running. I thing once I put this Motor in the water where the Motor can stay cool, it will run for ever. You can`t run a Boat Motor out of the water? Rite of Wrong

The motor is not in the water, that why it is overheating and shuting down. This thing should run and stay running once I put it in the water.

If you have run it until it is overheated to the point of seizing up, then you may well have ruined the motor. You have, at the very least, destroyed the waterpump impeller. Step one will be to do a compression check to make sure the powerhead is still viable. If it is, then replace the waterpump impeller. DO NOT run the motor again until that is done. Outboards are water-cooled. They need to be in the water to operate properly...
