Is a 1976 evinrude 40 hp enough for a 16 foot thundercraft v bottom

Depends on what your need for speed is.Motor can be propped to operate nicely and within its recommended rpm ranges.In short,it'll work.

Just a refresh on previous statements:<br /><br />You'll get the best from your boat and it's design if you power it with 75-100% of the rated power.<br /><br />I guess Thunder Crafts were rated -depending on model- at some 100-120 hp so 40 may prove too little.

I have a 50hp on a 16 bass tracker. plenty of power for me. top end speed 40+mph. I would think 40 should work. dont know if you can pull a skier with it though.
