Hi

I have an Envinrude 115 1980 with an on board fuel tank. I am wondering if the fuel line should be the same size all the way from the tank to the engine?? Currently the line comes from the tank 3/8". The connector through the boat at the back is 3/8".Connected to that is a 5/16" hose on it that goes to a 5/16"bulb. Then a 3/8" hose coming off the other side of the bulb to a 5/16" connector at the engine and then a 5/16 small hose running up to the screen. I took the screen off to see the size and it aculally looks like a 3/8" nipple. Sorry for all the mumbo jumbo. So should I replace all of this so it is 3/8" fuel line?? Should I put an in-line fuel filter before or after the bulb when I do this???
Thanks ...

A line which has some 5/16" fittings on it is probably OK for your engine. The 3/8" is a must for V6 engines. There's another issue-the original factory hoses under the cowling were not rated to handle today's ethanol-blended fuels. The ethanol can deteriorate the lines, cause leaks and hose debris can get into the carbs. If yours are original, It's best to replace all of them. If any pieces of the feed line to the engine are original, they should be replaced also. If you decide to replace parts of the feed line, I'd replace it all with 3/8". I put my inline filter after the bulb on a section of the line that drapes over the splashwell. This way it is easily visible every time I prime the bulb and when running.

And somewhere in all this a water seperator isn't such a bad idea either, with todays fuel being a sucker for water and all that. Even fuel straight from the gas pump can have water, depends when and where you buy it.
