I've been hearing a lot of the 2006 EPA regulations. What are the implications for current owners of 2-stroke motors? Are sales of 2-strokes going to stop entirely in 2006? What will this do to the re-sale/trade-value of current 2-stroke motors?

Lots of questions, I know, but as a purchaser of a new Mercury 90 hp 2-stroke (which appears to be wonderfully efficient and reliable), I don't want it to be like the computer that I bought last December -- obsolete!

Thanks for your input.

Re: EPA Regulations

Most, if not all, motors produced today meet the EPA (and CARB) 2006 regulations. We continue to hear that OE's will, or have, eliminate the carb'ed 2 stroke motors before then.

Personally, I am not afraid of anyone wanting to take away my 1991 motor, but I am concerned about the restrictions being placed on our waterways. You really want to get a taste of what's coming, go to www.standing-watch.org. Boats and PWC's are being banned and waterways are being declared "off limits" faster than people realize.

Good luck!

Re: EPA Regulations

The 2006 EPA regulations do not restrict any type of motor. They limit the AVERAGE emissions of an outboard manufacturer to be 75% less than the 1996 average emissions.
