Alright this sounds stupied but may work, I have a cracked block and heard a story of someone molding the side of their block (a hole about the size of thier fist) it was said the the pistion rod was exposed. Well I wounder could the same epoxy seal the crack in the block located at the top of the block, a place that welds said that could be welded but would take 3 weeks to get to the job. I need it by friday

Re: Epoxy Questions

Is the hole in a place that requires a stress holding patch? A hole in a crankcase doesn't require near the strength that a hole in cylinder head does.

Re: Epoxy Questions

The Best? JB Weld... Check that link. I had to repair my gimabal ring with it which is under a lot of stress and it has worked great. You can get it at any autoparts store and maybe even WalMart

Re: Epoxy Questions

Is the crack running across the side of 2 cylinders? It may be in the water jacket, but that is one I would leave to the welder. Does the crack run through to the cylinder wall?

Re: Epoxy Questions

I would guess any of the 2 part JB welds would be OK. I used JB many years ago on a lawn mower crankcase. Worked OK, but didn't have to hold any pressure. JB website testimonial said someone used it on a radiator neck, so I would think it can hold at least 17psi of hot water.

Re: Epoxy Questions

JB weld is keeping the water in my heat exchanger on my boat. So far so good. The stuff is great as far as I'm concerned, use it a lot. I actually forgot the exchanger was JBWelded until I read this thread!

JB weld works great, but you must spend the time to be sure the surface to be repaired is super clean, no rust, dirt oil , or paint. I have a exhaust manifold repaired with JB its lasted 4 years now and still holding strong.
