Erratic Tach, overheat alarm

I was wondering if a bad battery connection could cause the overheat alarm(constant beep) and an erratic or dead tach?

As I attempted to start my motor, it barely kicked then nothing would happen when i turned the key, I also noticed a small spark on the negative post where a wing nut holds my negative leads on. I wiggled the cable back and forth a little then the motor starts on the next key turn.

My battery is being replaced as I type this as well I'm changing how I have everything connected, I was just using wingnuts.

Should I be looking for anything else? Oh ya it is a 1991 90hp rude.

I've been told to replace the wing nuts with stainless steel washers and nuts, and tighten down with a wrench. I have also been told that loose connections can cause all kinds of syptoms and/or problems. If you can jiggle the cable, it's loose!

You've been told right Scott. And a bad battery connection can burn up the circuit in the alarm buzzer itself and cause it to sound constantly when the key is on.

Thanks, I will post the results, with my new battery and connections. Living in a salty enviorment, I should of replaced with stainless steel longtime ago.
