hello evryone,
i recently purchased an 88 bayliner capri 2150 cuddy running the OMC/GM 5.0 305ci.
the problem i have is that the boat has had way too many shade tree mechanics trying to fix things and it seems never took time to look at a shop manual or wiring diagram.
so now i get the pleasure of repairing the repairs.
ive got the engine running strong after a little love including, spark plugs/wires, fuel filters, carb tear down and cleaning, and some time sorting, testing, removing and rewiring the rats nest of wires that was so kindly left laying on my intake manifold and submerged in the bilge.
OK so ive bored you enough heres what i need advice on.
my ESA was not stumbling the ignition, idle is within range.. ok so i checked the continuity on my interupter and overstroke switch they check out. so upon further inspection i relise the system is not even hooked up because the factory distributor and coil have been removed and replaced by a newer electronic distributor probly out of some junked chevy..... now we see why there was such a mess of unused wiring..
ok so heres what i decided to try. i rewired evrything in the system back to factory and when it came time to hook up to what should have been the coil i wired the interruptor into the tach at the distributor cap..... Guess what.....still runs strong but no stumble... does anyone know how i can get this to work without dropping $350 on a factory dist. and coil???
