So I just got a 1988 bayliner Capri bowrider. It has the factory trailer an escort with it. Today I went to take it out got about 20 feet and the left tire on the trailer nearly fell off. Upon further inspection the hub is completely rusted out and it looks as though the the interior bearing has melted itself to the spindle. Since the spindles aren’t removable I’m figuring I need a whole new axle.(sn that will be fun to change with the boat still on the trailer) the question I have is can I just use a normal straight generic axle? The axle on it is straight square tubing but the spindles are actually elevated about 2-3 inches up. Pictures are attached. Please let me know your thoughts!

It appears that you have a drop center axle. You should be able to order a direct replacement. You just need to check and make sure you match the axle specs.

i would be doing all the maintenance on the boat and trailer. as with any new to you anything. assume the prior owner did nothing...... in this case, service the wheel bearings

you can chisel off the old bearing race and still use that spindle

I tried to chicle it off with a chisel and hammer and it didn’t budge. I don’t think any of it on that side had ever been changed. The other side looks a lot newer including the springs. There was literally nothing left in the hub others than the racers.

Jeez O Petes look at that!! The old hub is even cracked!

I'm sure Escort got there axles from some manufacturer, find out who that is and you should be in good shape.

Update I was able to cut into it with a dremel and then knock it off. Thanks for the help
