i am a boat rookie, bought a used 92 larson ski boat, trailer is an escort model, has 12 inch rims, would i be better off changing hub to move up to a 13 in tire, strictly for stability and peace of mind while towing? not sure if the boat and trailer were sold as a package, but it is what i have now.

Escort trailers were OEM with Bayliner boats. Could be an after market, but probably from a Bayliner. The good news is they are very tough, well made trailers.

Regarding the tire size, 12 inch tires with a 5:30 C load rating can carry 1050 lbs per tire, or 2100 lbs per axle. B load range can carry less. So check the tires, check the GVW of the trailer and weigh the trailer to determine if its sufficient to carry the boat.

Going up to 13 inch rims will only cause you to have to back the trailer farther in the water to float and retrieve the boat because it's sitting higher, and the added expense of new rims and tires.
