Howdy all! I'm new at this but here goes.

I got this motor from a friend who said it ran fine last time he used it which was 10 years ago.
It has been sitting in his garage eversince.

I think from a little web research it's an Eska 4.5 sold through Sears(Ted Williams).

I'm looking for the year. I think maybe mid 70's
The Model # is 217-5946-4
The Serial # 4E-521695

Also any chance anyone know where I can get a Carb Kit for it? I took the carb off and blew it out. Cleaned it up a bit and the motor does run but it does require constant manipulation of the choke and throttle.

Anyway just wondering...Any help would be appriciated, the thing doesn't appear to have any gears either. Hmm?

:) :) WOW Thanks Rick that Great!!! :) :)

Do you happen to know which Carb kit I need and/or how I would find out?

Also the motor says to use TC-30 or TC-40 mix with Regular Leaded Gas. I bought the lead additive and am currenlty mixing it with Walmart brand TCW-3 engine oil at a 40:1. Is that ok?

Should I mix it different since it's been so long since the thing has run? :D :D :D

EthanHunt
The Carb. kits are all the same. Order any one of them. They may come with some parts for other models that you would not use. Use a 50:1 Mixture on that Motor. 1 Pint Per 6 Gal Gas using TCW-3 oil.

You don't need to use the lead additive. It won't do anything on the 2-Stroke Motor. Way back then, leaded fuel is all there was. No Valves in a 2-Stroke to worry about, so save your money for better things.

Rick,
Thanks so much for all your help!!
I really appreciate your assistance.

I will definitely take your advice. Should I even get a carb kit if the thing is running?

Might want to order one anyway, just to have it on hand for when you do need it. And eventually you will need it, if not now. At least you won't be waiting for parts at a bad time..

Hi, Ethan.

With respect for my colleagues here, I think your engine is air cooled.

If I am correct, do not use TCW-3 oil, (The W means water cooled) use chainsaw oil and use the mix called for on your engine decal. Most air cooled engines require 24:1 mix, some even 16:1.

The reason for all this is that air cooled engines run a lot higher temps than water cooled and require higher viscosity oil.

If I am wrong, of course, follow the excellent advice above.

Good luck. :)

Thanks JB
I stand corrected. The mixture is 32:1 for your motor. Not sure if it's water or air cooled, but if it has no water intakes on the lower unit, then it's air cooled.

Re: Eska 4.5HP What Year?

Thanks to both JB and Rick.

So I guess I'm using the wrong mix.
It IS an air cooled engine but right near the prop it there is a little plug that says fill. I assume that I am supposed to use lower unit oil, which I got at Wal-Mart, it's like 80w-90 lower unit oil for most modern outboards...is this OK?

Also the engine calls for TC-30 or TC-40 (what is TC-30 and where do I get it?) mixed 1/4 pint per 1 gallon of leaded gas. The only reason I bring that up again is because it also says specifically to NOT use unleaded gas....hmm.

Hi again, Ethan.

In 1974, unleaded gasoline was a different product than modern unleaded. In those days only leaded fuel had correct octane for your engine.

Tetraethyl lead itself offers no benefit for 2 strokes. Modern unleaded fuel is a much better fuel for your engine than leaded.

Good luck. :)

thanks JB,

Now do you know where I can get the TC-30 or TC-40 mix?

Hi Ethan
As JB said, you can use plain old air-cooled 2-stroke oil(Chain Saw type)in your motor. I really have no idea what the TC-30 refers to. Sounds like a TCW-3, without the watercooled motor properties...
